Hot damn… He is assholish, smart mouthed, and stubborn as shit. Once the door is opened though… He is extremely sincere, kind, supportive and loyal. And it’s all wrapped in a sexy package of delicious! 

I implore you to give this book a shot. Seriously…. The suspenseful twists and ups & downs you will experience are phenomenal!

I’m a contemporary romance author , and I am just about to complete my first series of books called The Into The Series.

I live in Scotland with my husband and three amazing children. I live in a very small village in the country so writing makes it easier to have friends, even if they are in my head.

I have always been a huge reader but it wasn’t until 2013 that I was…lets say encouraged…to write my first book. I published on my birthday in 2014 and have been on a crazy roller coaster ever since.

My favorite things to read about are tattooed alphas…and if they have a dirty mouth its all the better!

I have met so many awesome people on this journey and I never imaged talking to some of my favourite authors, never mind calling some of them my friend.

I walk past my dark bedroom and I realise my mistake when I’m grabbed from behind by a strong pair of arms. I can’t believe he was hiding, and I can’t believe I fell for it. A scream leaves my throat as Noah’s arms tighten around my waist and he lifts me off the floor.

“Noah, don’t you dare. I swear if you do this I will make you suffer. It won’t be worth it. Noah, no!” He doesn’t stop moving, my pleas falling on deaf ears as he moves me under the showerhead and reaches his hand out for the cold tap.

“Noah, please. I’m sorry okay? I promise never to laugh at you, no matter what epically stupid thing you do.”

“Wrong answer.” He turns the tap and within seconds freezing cold is spraying over me, drenching through my clothes and making my breath catch in my chest.

Padding my bare feet back into Jack’s bedroom, I start riffling through his drawers like a wet raccoon, searching for something that can pass as pajamas. I try on four pairs of basketball shorts and two shirts before finding items small enough to fit me without being obscene.

I’m not a small person—not at all. I’m average height, average weight. It’s just that Jack’s a giant who, apparently, wears size 100 in everything. Twisting the shirt around my middle so it hangs properly, I absently inhale and smile when I catch Jack’s scent.

What? No. Don’t smile about that, you idiot.

I unclench my fists from his shirt and smooth out the wrinkles I created clutching it to my nose. I’m not like a wet raccoon at all. I’m worse. Raccoons would be ashamed of me.

My inner dialogue—I’ve just accepted that I’m certifiable, at this point—comes to a halt when I hear an engine in the front yard.

Jack.

My first instinct is to run outside and smack him—you know, violent tendencies and all— but I regain my composure and choose a more mature tactic.

I stand perfectly still in the dark living room and wait for him with a scowl.

Through the window, I watch his dark figure stumble out of the car and slowly climb the front steps all hunched over. What did he do, go get drunk? Great.

I cross my arms, scowl still poised to kill, and wait as he opens the door and quietly steps inside. He flicks on the living room light and I ready myself for the shit storm I’m about to rain all over his ass. But my words, my anger, my bitter intentions fall away the instant I see his face.

“Jack.” It’s more of a gasp than a word as it leaves my mouth.

He pulls his eyes up from his bloody and torn hand, and sets them on me. “Jenna. What the hell?” Several emotions cross his eyes. Anger. Fear. Relief. Anger.

I pull a face. “Don’t ‘what the hell’ me. You’re the one who stole my car and drove off into the night.”

He screws his face up. “So you waited up to yell at me?”

“Well…” I pause.

Is that why I waited up? Well, crap.

“Yeah,” I finally say, not particularly proud of my answer.

“Typical,” he mutters. “Listen. I’m not in the mood to bicker with you right now so if you don’t mind rescheduling this bitch-out for tomorrow, that would be great.”

He brushes past me, his shoulder lightly sweeping mine, and halts at the touch. Facing me, he softens his husky voice. “I’m sorry.”

Long eyelashes lower over his storm-gray eyes as he searches my face, and the wicked wildfire inside me instantly reignites as his gaze drops to my mouth.

The thick frustration that filled the room just moments ago thins into a sweet trepidation, curling around us with a daring charge. So delicious. But so dangerous.

I carefully step back and clear my throat. Jack does the same. We’re masters of avoidance.

Without another word, he moves past me and marches down the hall. That’s when I spy the blood running down the back of his shirt from a large gash between his shoulder blades.

My heart stops.

Within These Walls was definitely a unique contemporary romance! The majority of the story is told from within the local hospital. I love that we get to read from multiple POVs and felt like it added a depth to the story that would have otherwise been lost.

Lailah, born with a severe heart defect, is in the cardiology ward and isn’t getting good news. Jude, a CNA with one very interesting history, can’t help but be drawn to the quirky girl with the positive outlook.

Both Lailah and Jude are broken in their own ways…but they can be healed. Lailah has created a notebook that she calls her Someday List and Jude manages to get her to share some of it with him. He then proceeds to help her cross off as many things on her list as possible.

Within These Walls is a super sweet and swoon worthy story about two people with broken hearts and their struggle to find a love that will complete them. The sacrifices made by both Lailah and Jude are immense and truly give insight into how deep they care.

I really loved these two together! They both had this lovable quality and this compassion that shone through no matter what. (Even Jude, with his quiet loner ways was filled with a sweetness that you just can’t deny.) Watching as Lailah pulled back the layers on Jude’s armor and found his true self buried deep within was heart wrenching. Knowing that Jude had a HUGE secret just made things even harder to deal with. 

The characters, including the “extras” were so deep and realistic that I quickly found myself bonding with them and understanding where they wanted to be and what obstacles they were going to have to face. I know that I would love to read another book about these characters…maybe even see if the elusive playboy Roman could be tamed and shown what real love means.

J.L. Berg’s writing style is fantastically addictive! The way the story is written is just so real…so raw…so full of emotion, that you can’t help but find yourself deep within the story and totally in love! This is a book that I highly recommend and hope that you guys will love as much as I did!
