“Where are you?” Cade asked.

“Your room.” After the gallery exhibit ended, I needed to be near him. But surrounded by his stuff was the closest I could get. Thank God Mase hadn’t asked when I’d shown up at their doorstep, he’d only given me an understanding look.

Cade insisted he felt better only moments ago. Then he refused to talk about his condition.

The phone was pressed to my ear, its glow, his existence, the only light in the darkness. I closed my eyes and turned slightly, pressing my nose into the pillow, inhaling deeply. Cade’s scent mixed with my heartache for him filled me with an incomparable longing. With effort, I could almost imagine him here wrapped around me. Almost.

“Where in my room?”

“Your bed.”

“I’m liking this bedtime story.” His voice deepened, turning gruff.

I nodded. “The drop-ins and unexpected surprises. All the times I don’t think I’m going to see you, and then, there you are, my sexy-as-fuck dream standing in my doorway.”

A low chuckle sounded out. “Did you just call me sexy as fuck?”

My cheeks began to cramp with my huge smile. Just having him on the line was like thousand-dollar-an-hour therapy. “Maybe.”

“No, I’m definitely sure I heard it. Say it again.”

I swallowed hard and said in a low rumble, “Sexy as fuck.”

His heavy exhale sounded over the phone. “Damn, I miss you. Three more days. I will be there by Thursday night. Count on it.”

Confused about his early midweek arrival, I furrowed my brow. Then it hit me. Thursday was December 11th, my birthday. Even though I’d completely forgotten, he’d remembered. “You better. If you don’t, the rest of the CDs you abandoned here are gonna get it.”

He barked out a laugh. “What are you going to do? Take my favorites hostage?”

Alone in the dark, I narrowed my eyes, even though he couldn’t see. “Oh, no. I’m going to put your entire collection into a random shuffle.”

“You wouldn’t.”

“Try me, sexy boy. If you don’t get here on time, as promised, all this longing I feel for you will reach a breaking point. Girl needs an outlet. I’m thinking the CDs are a great start.”

He groaned. Then laughed. “Do your worst. If I am even a minute late. I’ll take my licks like a man.”

The thought of punishing him sent my mind guttering. Clearly I’d been exposed to him too long. “Oh, and how do you do it like a man?” My lips spit out the uncensored question before I could stop them.

His low growl vibrated in my ear. “Those are licks I’ll be giving you, Maestro. That’s how I do it like a man. Has it been so long that you don’t remember? I think you need intensive reeducation.”

His playfulness warmed my heart. Sparked the naughty girl inside of me to life. His naughty girl. “Maybe I do.”

He dragged his words out. “Slow, unbelievably slow. To make sure you’re paying attention.”

On a hard swallow, I buried my face into his pillow and took another deep breath. “Oh, you have my attention.”

I adored No Weddings. What Kat and Stone Bastion pulled off in that book was absolutely amazing! I was so excited to get my hands on One Funeral. I really enjoyed the fact that this is a flip POV series. Book one was all Cade and boy was it hot! His POV was sexy playboy all the way…with just a touch of romance and sweet guy! Book two, One Funeral, is from Hannah’s POV and I have to say that her thoughts weren’t much more PG than Cade’s hehe

Again, the authors manage to pull off a perfect balance between deep, serious and difficult to deal with issues and witty banter that had me laughing my ass off. They kept me from becoming overwhelmed by the issues that Cade and Hannah are trying to work through and instead managed to keep the book light hearted and fun.

I still can’t get over how much angst and sexual tension that filled No Weddings and still there was NO SEX! Oh wow…yeah…seriously…no sex in book one! Finally in One Funeral Cade and Hannah get to explore their desires…it takes them quite a bit to get there but it does happen so just give it time!

The romance in this book is amazing. Cade is so sweet and treats Hannah with the highest respect and love. I really enjoyed the fact that their physical relationship had such wonderful build up. Nothing was rushed. Nothing felt unrealistic. It flowed beautifully and made me want to be a part of it! I am so very curious to see where this series will go. I haven’t read a series that focused solely on one couple in a while. It is nice to get such a deep understanding of each character and to feel so attached to them and knowing that I will get to learn even more in the next book!

At the faux-funeral, Cade teases Hannah about bathroom trips…and other things…

We stepped out into the main room, which was done up just like a funeral viewing, from the spray of flowers at the front to the rows of uncomfortable-looking chairs. And of course, there was a huge ornate cross up on the dais, but then again, we were in a church.

Okay, this isn’t so bad. It’s a funeral.

After a quick scan of the room, I saw Cade. He looked miserable until the moment his gaze locked onto mine. Then he dropped his head, slumping in shame.

I burst out laughing.

Drawn to him, I crossed the room without a second thought. “Nice tie.”

He tugged at the bright collar at his neck, grumbling, “Don’t forget the cummerbund.”

“That’s nothing. Look at me.” I plucked at the shiny, pink fabric. “Isn’t this the most ghastly thing ever to be called a dress? It’s a monstrosity in taffeta.”

He backed up a step, making a show of visually drinking in my entire body from head to toe. “I don’t know, Maestro. All I see is a burlap bag.” His eyes flickered with heat. “And petticoats.”

My legs bounced with sudden excitement, and I forced air out of my lungs on a slow exhale. Cade did things to me—heated, body-rocking, mind-spinning things—and I wanted unlimited amounts of that kind of medicine tonight.

How ironic. I wanted some of Cade’s wild-and-crazy to calm me.

“I need you tonight, Cade. This whole” —I gestured frantically to my outfit, then his— “getup is freaking me out a little.”

He put firm hands on my shoulders, staring hard at me. “A little?”

I thought about the great strides I’d made in therapy and how what I believed became reality. I was stronger than a bridesmaid dress. I’d learned how to separate my present from my past in therapy, and there was no way I was going to let all of that progress unravel now.

Tonight, in a bright pink bridesmaid dress, I made a vow to myself to enjoy the present moment.

I tilted my head and shook it. “No, I’m okay. Even if what I’m wearing is a travesty.”

He pulled me closer and held me against his solid chest, wrapping his arms around me. “But I liked the whole ‘I need you’ part. What if I never leave your side tonight? Would that help?”

I nodded.

“Done.” He pulled back. “So to clarify the details, if I have to lift and hold your petticoats while you pee, will you lift and hold something when it’s my turn?” Wicked eyes glittered down at me.

I gaped. “You are not lifting anything of mine while I pee.”

“But I’m never leaving your side tonight.”

I cast him a sidelong glance, grumbling, “What did I just agree to?”

He chuckled, flagging down a waiter who held a tray of filled Champagne glasses. “Something very interesting from my point of view.” He grabbed two glasses. “Here, drink up. The night is young, and I intend to accompany you to no less than three bathroom trips.”

I jabbed an elbow into his ribs. “Pig.”

He coughed until his shoulders shook from laughter.

I swiped a glass from his hand and glared at him while I drank down the liquid courage, not yet caring that it would make his petticoat-lifting wishes come true.

He slid his hands into his pants pockets, rocking back on his heels, as the corners of his lips twitched. “Actually, I’ve been told I’m hung like a horse.”

I sputtered, choking on my Champagne.

He grinned. “Care to confirm?” He chugged his glass, a crime with the ten-dollars-per-swallow Cristal. “I’ll keep up with you. Then we’ll each fulfill our end of the bargain. Lift and hold. Keep practicing the technique in your mind.”

“I am not holding…there’s no way I’m touching…”

Cade grinned and leaned down, brushing his lips along my jawline. His hot breath fanned an erotic path up the side of my neck until a kiss caressed my ear. “My massive cock?”

My breaths came in short bursts, my heart racing. All I could think of now was Cade’s massive cock. And all I wanted to do was see it. Touch it.

I swallowed hard, trying to catch my breath as aching heat pulsed between my legs. When he pulled back, I stared at him. All I could manage was a nod.

What was I nodding to? That yes, I did want to touch it? My thoughts fuzzed.

Cade barked out a laugh, grabbing another too. He held it up near mine for a private toast. “To adventures together no matter where we go. Most especially in the bathroom.”

I laughed, shaking my head as we clinked glasses to the most ridiculous toast ever. And yet I couldn’t wait for the adventures to begin.

Cade’s story is so real and raw. I know that he comes across as a non-caring playboy in the beginning…and honestly that’s what he is. But give him time. Cade and Hannah are both amazing characters. They each have so many different layers that are slowly revealed as their story grows with each page. I won’t say too much on the matter, because if I do I will be giving away too much. I want you to be able to be a part of the story, as I was, and discover all of the awesome and some not so awesome things about them and their pasts. When you read this book…immerse yourself in Cade and Hannah’s world. Give them your everything, because they are going to be giving it right back. 

Both Cade and Hannah have been burned in the past and have dealt with it in not so healthy ways. Watching as they struggled to accept the friendship that the other offered was heart-wrenching and heart warming. It was amazing to see them both grow into the person that they could be.

The chemistry and sexual tension is insane and watching as Cade and Hannah try to deal with it is absolutely priceless and hilarious! Trust me…you won’t want to miss out on this story!

No Weddings was fun to read and kept me wanting more throughout the entire book! The writing was witty, addictive and fun. The characters were deep and well developed and easy to fall in love with. Overall I have to say that I am impressed with these two authors and cannot wait to get my hands on the rest of the books…who knows maybe if we beg enough we could even get some books featuring the Michaelson sisters and even a little more Ben and Mase!!

Her eyes narrowed for a split second as she pulled out a large pan with two hands. “This is not even close to a date. What would you suggest instead, a notepad and pen?”

I leaned a hip on the far counter, watching her light the stove and drop a large tablespoon of solidified coconut oil into the pan. “Would you be wearing those sexy librarian glasses?”
