I sat down yesterday morning with my coffee and my e-reader, preparing for another day lost in an alternate reality. I turned on my kindle to discover Complicate Me had arrived. I had been anticipating this book for quite some time, I was anxious to see how well M. did with the sweet side of romance. We all know she rocked the sh*t out of the VIP Trilogy, I mean come on, those books were written to kidnap your innocence and make you want to be the MVP. (If you haven’t experienced these books – I will forgive you if you go one click now!)

I was in love with this book from Prologue to Ending. I couldn’t put it down. I haven’t been so lost within a story in a while. She gave us everything from a small town we all secretly love. Close knit families, young love, tragedy, and heartbreak.
I laughed out loud and sobbed just as hard. The emotions seep into your soul and hold steady with hopes that all will turn out the way it’s supposed to.

But does anything ever go exactly as planned?

In Complicate Me we are introduced to group of small town kids who’s families are so close they are raised like siblings. Jacob, Dylan, Austin, Lucas and Alexandra have a bond that will withstand the tests of time. Or so we hope. The groundwork that is laid in this book ensures the rest of this series will be just as phenomenal.

Lucas aka. “Bo” and Alexandra aka. “Alex/Half Pint” have the strongest bond in the group. With their mothers being best friends it is destined to be so. Adolescence takes control and their friendship begins to blossom into a completely different feeling. However, outside influences don’t understand or have mercy on these young hearts.

I watched in awe as Bo and Half Pint come into their own and fall victim to raging hormones and broken desires. I forgave and carried on when hope seemed to enflame only to get snuffed out again… I cussed and cried right along them.

Moving on from a life you have always known, is sometimes the most difficult thing to overcome.
They say everything happens for a reason… That we are never given more than we can handle…

Hurricanes leave tragedy in their wake…

My brown eyed girl sat on our blankets with her arms wrapped around her knees, hiding her face. The tiny frame that I adored so much shook uncontrollably, only heightening the deepest sobbing that escalated with each passing second. It was such an intimate moment, not to be shared with anyone, especially me. Alex didn’t cry. I watched her bawl for the first time in my life. I had never seen anyone cry like that before, and it shook me to my core, slicing me whole, and making me feel like I was dying. Carving a memory that I would take to my grave. There was no going back…

No erasing.

No do overs.

No deleting.

What I witnessed tonight would be my purgatory; I would now close my eyes and forever see her falling apart in front of me. Shattering before my very own eyes and I found it hard to breathe.

Hard to move.

My feet were glued to the goddamn floor as she continued to weep, sob, bawl, violently sucking in air that wasn’t available. I accepted it all; each tear that fell from her face becoming pieces of me. Circulating through my veins and blood, it flowed endlessly, a river of her sadness and sorrow and of my broken promises. No beginning or ending to her cries, just an infinite current, flooding the hole where my heart should be. The shadow of her trembling petite body reflected off the walls, leaving a trail of regrets in its wake.

Mine.

Hers.

Ours.

Growing up in a small town you overheard a lot of things. People talking, stories told, town gossip. You listened a lot. You learned a lot. Tourists, townies, friends, and especially family all shared wisdom and advice that you think you will never need.

Bunch of bullshit. They say you have that one moment in life where

things could have been different, that one moment that changes the course of your life or the direction you could have taken. That one moment that could forever change you and everything you wanted to be true, everything you wanted to believe. One simple decision could alter your entire future.

My entire world.

I would forever remember this moment for the rest of my life. This is the moment that changed everything. This is the moment where I took another direction, another road that led me to my own demise. My own regrets. I should have walked in there. I should have apologized. I should have begged for her forgiveness. I should have promised that I would never hurt her again. I should have done whatever it took to make her look at me the way she had our entire lives.

But I didn’t…

I did none of those things…

Not one.

Nothing was said between us.

No words.

No actions.

I was a coward and couldn’t do it. I couldn’t see her like that. I couldn’t look into her eyes and know that I had hurt her. That I had disappointed her. That I ruined her love and lost her respect for me. The boy who promised he would never hurt her.

The boy who swore he would always protect her.

The boy who vowed he would never let anything happen to her.

That same boy was me.

I was the reason she was bawling.

I was the reason she was hurt.

I was the reason she was broken.

She knew the truth. It had finally caught up to me… I shattered her illusion that I was hers. I ruined the one good thing I had in my life. The girl that owned my heart was bleeding out for me in a way that I had never seen before. The house was no longer our safe place.

I had brought my hurricane with me…

I couldn’t risk the possibility of losing her permanently if I walked in there and admitted my truths. She wouldn’t love me anymore, she wouldn’t look at me the same anymore, and she wouldn’t be mine anymore.

I gave her the only comfort I could in her moment of despair. I turned around and left. I walked down the stairs and got into my truck. I turned the engine on and drove my sorry ass home. I took a shower and never once looked at myself in the mirror. I pretended that nothing changed. That I didn’t cause her pain, and that she didn’t know the truth. That I didn’t see her sobbing and that she wasn’t even bawling to begin with. That we were still just best friends, and that she was my girl and I was her boy.

Like all of the Hell Yeah books by Sable Hunter, You Are Always on My Mind was a heart clenching book that had me gasping and reaching for tissue as I ugly cried so hard I could barely see the words on my kindle.

Sable Hunter has such a unique way of creating a story that gives us multiple perspectives from extremely well developed realistic and lovable characters. Needless to say it’s addicting and once I start reading I can never seem to put the books down.

This story was rough. I will warn that if you have triggers from abuse it may be a bit difficult to read. There aren’t a lot of in depth scenes of abuse but it’s talked about enough to matter.

Overall, this book was amazing! Everything flowed beautifully and the romance was one that I had been dying for since first meeting these characters earlier in this series. I am definitely ready to find out which love story we get next!

When reality starts to fade in a bit, I find myself being walked to the door of my apartment building, my arms draped over both Kayla and Steph. We go up the stairs and now I’m standing in front of my door, wobbling back and forth, trying my hardest to look as sober as possible.

Steph goes to knock on the door but it’s already open. I guess we are being loud, giggling, in the hallway.

Bram looks at the three of us and my God is he a sight for sore eyes.

“We brought her home,” Steph says, motioning with her hand for Bram to get out of the way, “your shift is over.”

“No,” I tell them as they shuffle me inside. “He can stay.”

I know the three of them are exchanging a look over my head.

“I’ll make sure she goes to bed,” Bram explains. “No funny business, I swear.”

“Pinky swear?” Steph says and I turn to see her holding out her pinky to him. “You know I don’t break those.”

Ugh, Steph and her damn pinky swears. She wouldn’t even be married to Linden if it weren’t for one.

But Bram does a pinky swear with her.

“No funny business,” Steph warns him.

“Good thing I’m not funny!” I yell as I flop down on the couch. The room is beginning to spin.

“Nic, that was, like, five minutes ago,” Steph says. She reaches over the couch and pats my head. “Do you want us to undress you because Bram’s not allowed.”

“No one undresses me but me!” I yell, throwing my fist up into the air.

“Have fun with her,” Steph says to Bram. “And remember, she’s untouchable. Don’t make me make your brother punch you in the junk or something.”

Bram makes a scoffing noise. “Last time he tried to do that, I got him back good. You just ask him what happened on January 16th, 2005 and why he’ll never eat pudding again.”

“I mean it,” Steph threatens and I hear her and Kayla leave and the door closing.

I close my eyes too. Drift away for a moment. The spinning has stopped and there’s a beautifully cool breeze wafting over my skin.

“I’m not supposed to touch you,” Bram’s gruff voice says and when I open my eyes, he’s crouched in front of me, a lock of dark hair over his forehead. His face is shadowy in the dark, the only light now being from my bedroom behind him.

“That’s okay,” I mumble into the couch. “You can touch me. I say it’s fine.”

“How about I bring you something to sleep in? Do you have a favorite nightshirt? I always see you in that top that your nipples try and poke right through.”

“No, not the nipple shirt.”

He goes to get up. With a lazy hand, I grip his shirt. “Don’t leave. I’m fine here.”

“I can’t imagine you being comfortable.”

“I’m drunk. Everything is comfortable. Except I wish I had a cheeseburger. I would eat it and use it as a pillow. Or maybe use it as a pillow and then eat it.”

“I see.”

I raise my brow at him. “You just want to go through my underwear.”

“Oh, I’ve already gone through your underwear.”

“Lies.”

“I wore them on my head and danced around your apartment.”

“Did you really?” I ask, totally serious.

“Come on,” he says grabbing my forearms. “If you want to sleep in your clothes, that’s fine. But I’m bringing you to your own bed and taking off your shoes.”

“Can you brush my teeth too? I need clean teeth.” I let him pull me to my feet and I pitch to the left, heading right for the coffee table. But I’m in his arms, his capable arms, and he’s holding me to him.

“You have capable arms.”

“You have an exquisite arse,” he responds and half leads me, half drags me out of the living area and into the bedroom.

“I like the way you say arse,” I say with a giggle, exaggerating his accent. “I like the way you say everything.”

“I’m glad, because I foresee a lot of arse talk in the future.”

“Yeah, yeah.” I try and swat him away. “All talk and no arse pinching.”

Isn’t sleep just totally adorable when it tries to compete with the book your reading?

I just dealt with this!! I finished my writing for the night and thought ‘Oh, it’s only 10:30, I can totally start reading A Fighting chance by Author Annalisa Nicole and finish it tomorrow to review on Monday’s release day!’ Yeah…guess finished the book at nearly 3 am and fell asleep with tears in her eyes over the story?!?!

While the writing style was a tad different than what I’m used to, basically the dual POVs overlapped a bit along with some wording, but by the time I was half way through chapter one…I just didn’t care and I ADORED it! The story line captured me so fully and completely that nothing else mattered! Including the fact that my time to sleep was quickly disappearing without my noticing!

Guys…seriously…this book…just WOW!

Before I was part of the way through chapter one, which is just there to sort of catch you up on what has happened in the previous book with the main characters (I totally appreciated this seeing as I have yet to read the other books in the series), I had developed such an attachment to both Chloe and Max that I simply had to know what happened. There was no ‘Well here is a good stopping point, I think I’ll sleep now so I’m not a zombie tomorrow’. Oh no! This book was action packed, filled with love, tears, A SHIT TON OF SNOT and romance that left me absolutely breathless and begging for more!

It was intense.

It was heart wrenching.

It was emotional.

It was crazy and perfect and epic and flawless and …. well you get the point!

Max had his ‘stupid man’ moments…but the book wouldn’t be worth reading if everything was all ‘sunshine and floaty hearts’. Every book needs it’s drama. It’s tension. Trust me, Annalisa Nicole has tension down to a science…an art form! It’s just amazing how perfectly she manages to make me both adore and loath Max during parts of this book. I get why he did what he did…and yet I still got pissed off at him as I read in Chloe’s POV.

I am still amazed and perplexed by the fact that I connected with both characters to such a point that as the POV switched…my outlook and thoughts and feelings towards the situation switched along with it! I can honestly say that this is a first for me!

The romance flowed naturally. I love it when a book makes the characters take their time, not rush into the physical relationship, especially with extenuating circumstances such as these. The sexual tension and desire wasn’t overwhelming and the sex scenes, when they finally came, were well written and left my mouth a little dry and my thoughts in some pretty naughty places!

The characters are well developed. Deep. Real. Raw. Emotional. Addictive. And so well written that I couldn’t help but feel as if I was one of the other characters along for the ride! I love that we get a glance at the characters from the past book (which I am totally dying to read now) while still focusing on the main characters in this book. This family was so close and so loving and accepting. I couldn’t help but fall a little bit in love with every last one of them!

Overall, this author and this book are amazing! I definitely recommend you heading over to Amazon and falling in love with the characters just as I did! The story is impeccable, the characters are extremely well developed and lovable and the romance is one that will leave you wanting more and yet knowing that they totally got the HEA that they deserved!

Describe your book/series in 15 words or less!

The Nexus Series is a series centered around Nexus, a fictitious local BDSM club in Atlanta.

When did you start writing? How did your first book evolve into what it is now?

I’ve always had stories that played around in my head. During quiet, daydreaming moments, the stories would elaborate in my mind. I LOVE to read erotic romance. My husband encouraged me to write my stories for others to enjoy.

What made you go indie?

I work full-time and have many obligations related to my job that is not conducive to have traditional deadlines from publishers. I have to write on my time.

What issues popped up for you through the indie channel? Formatting, covers, platforms, etc.

As an indie writer, promotion is the very hardest part. There are so many great books, getting yours noticed is quite difficult.

Writing style…what is your writing process like?

The hardest part for me is finding quiet time to write. I work full-time, so time is limited already. I write best in silence, unless I’m using music for a scene and that’s sometimes difficult around my house.

How do you develop your characters?

I have the initial thought, but then I let the characters speak to me. Then the story line dictates how the character develops.

Tell us a little bit about your cover art. Who designed it? Why did you go with that particular image/artwork?

I’ve designed all of my covers. I use corsets because they are easily identifiable with BDSM clubs which is what The Nexus Series is centered around.

How do you spend your time when you aren’t writing?

Besides working, I enjoy reading, sports, music, dancing, and spending time with my family.

Are you the driver or a passenger in your book? (Are you in control of where the story goes or does it sort of just happen?)

The passenger… I tried driving in Soleil and Master Derek put me in my place.

What’s next for you?

I’m currently working on book #4 in The Nexus Series and have recently decided to dip my toes into Erotic Paranormal. I hope to have a Vampire Novella released in the early fall.

Key lime pie because it’s a sinfully delicious dessert that I love.

I would be a teddy bear. People would cuddle with me at night.

We all need a hero! Tell us about your protagonist(s)? Was there a real-life inspiration behind him or her?

There are little pieces of me and my husband in the characters. There are parts of each character that I can relate to personally.

You’re having a party. What character from your book do you hope attends? Why? What character do you hope doesn’t attend? Why?

I want all of them to be part of the party. The only ones I don’t want to attend would be Rick Foster, Scott Jenkins, and Master Isaac’s former sub, Vicki.

Characters often find themselves in situations they aren’t sure they can get themselves out of. When was the last time you found yourself in a situation that was hard to get out of and what did you do?

At a function for work, funny awards were given away. The surprise of me getting one, caused me to draw a blank and I spoke a phrase that could be twisted into a sexual innuendo. The group roared with laughter and I laughed along too. They have no idea I write erotica. So, I replied that it would take more than that slip up to embarrass me.

If you could have one super power what would it be? Why?

I think I would want to fly.

Usually book plots.

The message in the song is about accepting the differences of others, something I believe in with my whole heart.

Hot Alpha Gargoyole Shapeshifters in a Post-Apocalyptic World finding their mates

When did you start writing? How did your first book evolve into what it is now?

I started writing in high school. the idea for my first book came about 6 years ago that started as a sci-fi bounty hunter story. over time, the bounty hunters turned into shapeshifters

What made you go indie?

The opportunity to call all the shots, choose the covers that are right for me, make the money.

What made you go with a traditional publisher?

I’m a hybrid, having both a publisher and publishing myself. the publisher asked for short stories to be included in a valentine’s anthology so I sent them something I wrote and they accepted.

What issues popped up for you through the indie channel? Formatting, covers, platforms, etc.

Marketing, definitely. It’s taken a while to figure out how to get my books in front of people. That’s something i’m still working on

Writing style…what is your writing process like?

Most of the time i have the beginning and ending in my head. I sit down, write what comes to me and the characters dictate where the story goes from there. I tried outlining, but when the characters have minds of their own, I’m wasting my time with an outline.

How do you develop your characters?

They develop themselves. I have someone in mind, give them a name, an occupation, and the rest evolves from the story.

Tell us a little bit about your cover art. Who designed it? Why did you go with that particular image/artwork?

A friend of mine is an excellent graphic designer, so I asked her to do the first cover. She did such an amazing job, i beg her to do all my covers. this cover was a little different, in that it isn’t dark/night time. But the story is set in Greece and I had to show the beauty of the waters and architecture.

How do you spend your time when you aren’t writing?

Reading, riding my Harley when the weather permits, playing trivia.

Are you the driver or a passenger in your book? (Are you in control of where the story goes or does it sort of just happen?)

I drive the first leg of the journey, the characters take over about a fourth of the way in, then I bring it home.

My heros are all different. Some are more alpha than the others, but they are all badasses in their own right. Dante is a little more passive in the bedroom than some of the others, but he is all male when it comes to his mate. My alphas are all figments of my imagination, the way I think men should be.

You’re having a party. What character from your book do you hope attends? Why? What character do you hope doesn’t attend? Why?

I hope all my Gargoyles attend because they are just HOT! If I had to choose one, though, it would be….Frey I hope Alistair doesn’t show up because he’s an absolute ass.

That’s an easy answer but it was a hard time in my life. I married the absolute wrong person. He was abusive, but I did what I had to do and left.

Premonitions, so I could stop the evil bastards from destroying our world.

We all need a hero! Tell us about your protagonist(s)? Was there a real-life inspiration behind him or her?

I love it when equally there is a hero and heroine in a story. Jewel of the Nile or Mr. & Mrs. Smith come to mind. That is what I wanted for the World of Blood series. Since I knew this wasn’t going to be a stand-alone one book, it gave us the opportunity to delve deeper into the two heros. I can’t say that they are built on any one person other than our own avatar imaginations inside of Second Life.

Tell us a little bit about your cover art. Who designed it? Why did you go with that particular image/artwork?

We fell in love with Ravven when I came across her artwork on Facebook. She is an expat who lives in the UK and she’s a gamer to boot. Her artwork is clean, sexy, and inventive. http://www.ravven.com/ We love her mostly because she is truly genuine person and such an amazing artist. She has a way of embedding such detail when you look at the cover up close, but ti doesn’t look too garbled. Her lighting and textures are simply magnificent. We can’t say enough good things about her.

What are two of your favorite characters in your books/series?

That is a tough question! It’s like asking which child is your favorite. On certain days you can answer that question, but usually you love them all for their weird quirks and snark. I would have to say I truly enjoy Dakota’s character because she can truly say what is on her mind and get away with it. Whereas, Cheyenne and Sheridan have to be provoked a bit more before they lose their grasp of hold the tongue before thou speaketh.

What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?

In Exsanguinate I enjoyed writing the scene ambiance as Cheyenne walked into the Halloween Horror Park. So much of writing these days is show, not tell – but be sure and don’t stop your action or the reader will get bored. I had so much visual imagery to work from with Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights and Busch Gardens HalloScream that there wasn’t enough room in the book to write down everything I wanted to include. This is why we decided on having the interactive features in the book so readers could enjoy extended scenes if they wanted.

It’s kinda funny – there have been a couple people who didn’t understand the QR codes or the ebooks links into the website. They thought the code links were ads or dvds to a game. But then there are others who totally grooved on finding the hidden easter egg gems we have stashed away for fun on the website.

Are you the driver or a passenger in your book? (Are you in control of where the story goes or does it sort of just happen?)

This is a fantastic question, Becca! I would have to say both. Often times I have paved the road they are walking down, given them props and people to play with and then often times, they’ll surprise me with the words that come out of their mouths. Sometimes it’s shocking what they do!

You’re having a party. What character from your book do you hope attends? Why?

Oh, I totally want Dakota, Harris and Beano to show up! Those two are forever getting their snark on and who can resist a loveable Beano puppy?

What character do you hope doesn’t attend? Why?

I don’t think I would want Edric. He is truly a bad dude and just the thought of him totally creeps me out!

That is a truly relevant question and quite timely. My editor, Mary Ann Peden-Coviello, tore me a new one recently. It would seem as if my personal life was taken out on a few characters and I did some irreparable damage to the cast. If I had published the story with some of the unkindness which spewed from Cheyenne, she would have lost respect from the readers and you can’t do that with your protagonists. I’m thinking we will publish the “off the wtf were you thinking” scene onto the website. That way readers can see how I almost destroyed the entire cast!

My editor knows my characters so well that she called me out on it immediately and said, “WTF were you thinking?” LOL – Literally! SO after we discussed what I was trying to accomplish [can’t tell cause it’s a spoiler for 2^nd book], who was in the scene, and they needed to react realistically – I rewrote the scene in two parts. One portion from Cheyenne’s point of view [POV], and the other from Khaldon’s POV. So the scene carries out two simultaneous conversations from each here’d point of view. It was an extremely difficult chapter, but one that is critical to the growth of both my protags.

Who is your favorite “Book Boyfriend”? What series is it from and who wrote it?

Awww, man! I think you’ve got me there. I think it would have to Bones from the Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress Series. I fell in love with his voice narration on the audiobooks and it made me love the written character even more. He is a tender- hearted bad ass and he makes my toes curl up!

What books are on your nightstand or by your chair?

I’m not so sure what this says about me, but do grammar and self-editing books count? The emotion thesaurus is an absolute must as well. I have a kindle fire on my nightstand, so I literally have hundreds available to me at any given moment. My TBR list is longer than my to edit list…

What’s next for you?

We are deep into Book 2 for the World of Blood series – not sure yet of the launch date, but we are striving for a winter 2014 release.
